  1. TEAR AND WEAR
  2.  
  3. YOU'LL NEED:
  4. Heavy watercolor paper
  5. White construction paper
  6. Extra-tacky glue
  7. Slick-paint pens in iridescent colors
  8. Paintbrush
  9. Scissors
  10. Barrette clasp
  11. Pair of earring posts
  12.  
  13. STEP 1  
  14. For the barrette or earrings, tear a shape from the heavy watercolor paper that is larger than the barrette clasp or earring post.

  16. STEP 2
  17. For the barrette, print the heart pattern.  Cut shape from white construction paper.
  18.  
  19. Paint the heart with slick-paint pens, smoothing out the paint with your finger or brush.
  20.  
  21. For both the barrette and the earrings, tear and paint small pieces of construction paper.

  23. STEP 3
  24. Place the cut and torn pieces on the barrette or earring shapes as you wish, overlapping some of the pieces.  Glue and let dry.

  26. STEP 4
  27. Use slick pens to decorate the barrette or earrings with lines, shapes, and dots.

  29. Using extra-tacky glue, glue the clasps to the barrette or the posts to the earring shapes.

  32. SOME COOL IDEAS:
  33. Here are some more torn-paper projects you can do with your friends:

  35. Make greeting cards of various sizes and colors that fold over and fit purchased envelopes. Decorate them using the hearts, stars, or dinosaur patterns you can print out. Tear more bits and pieces of painted papers. Arrange and glue the pieces on the cards. Use slick pens to add lines and dots for pizzazz.

  37. Using the patterns you can print out as a guide, create tree, bell, and ball ornaments to hang or for gift tags. Follow the directions given for the other collage projects.
